The New SKTC Training Schedule
Exciting changes are happening at St Kilda Triathlon Club! The best triathlon club in Melbourne just got better, updating its training schedule to include more diverse and dynamic sessions, ensuring athletes have the best opportunities to improve, connect, and enjoy their triathlon journey.
More Variety, More Fun
The new schedule is designed to provide an even greater blend of structure, challenge, and fun. Whether you’re training for your next big race or just want to stay fit and social, there’s something for everyone. Here’s what the revamped week looks like:
Monday: Kick off the week with an own-venue bike session in the morning, giving athletes the flexibility to train on their local roads or indoors. In the evening, head to Strength & Conditioning (S&C) to build power and resilience.
Tuesday: Dive into the morning with Swim Squad at 6:30 am, perfect for refining technique and building endurance. In the evening, lace up for the MSAC Track Run at 6 pm — an ideal way to push your pace and work on running efficiency.
Wednesday: It’s all about the bike! Join the group ride or transition practice at 6:15 am to build strength and confidence in the saddle. Wrap up the day with another S&C session in the evening.
Thursday: Start with a 6:15 am Run with a coffee to follow at Domaine Brasserie, a great opportunity to get those legs moving and build consistency. There's Yoga in the afternoon and at 8pm, the Swim Technique + Squad session focuses on fine-tuning form and endurance.
Friday: Choose between a 6:15 am Open Water Swim (OWS) to get race-ready or a calming Yoga session to stretch, recover, and refocus.
Saturday: Hit the pavement at 9 am for a long, easy endurance run, designed to build base endurance and efficient oxygen transfer pathways. You can follow this up with an S&C session.
Sunday: Cap off the week with a 7am Bike or Brick, with breakfast at Al Naturale Cafe after the session, followed by S&C. Once a month we will have a destination session heading out of the hustle and bustle of Melbourne.
Why the Change?
Coach Steve Davis, Triathlon Australia’s Coach of the Year, emphasises the importance of variety and progression in training. "We wanted to create a schedule that not only builds strength and speed but also fosters community and keeps training exciting. Times have changed and the winter is coming, and with the new pool we were able to add in that extra swim session to build on technique or work in recovery. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or new to the sport, these sessions are designed to help you grow and enjoy every step of the journey."
